Aurora, Colorado- The popular and highly reputable gym in Aurora, Colorado, Orange Theory Fitness, Southlands releases blogs on their website multiple times a month. Since June is nationally recognized as Pride month, they have just published a blog entitled, “Orangetheory Community United in Support”.

The blog, written by Alex Kramers was published May 30th on the company’s website. The article showcases one of the Gym’s members, Jordan H, who is described as feeling out of place at big-box fitness facilities across the Manhattan area, which caused him to become intimidated by the judgmental stares and hushed whispers of surrounding gym members.

This intimidating, or “gymidation” atmosphere, (as Orangetheory Fitness often describes an intimidating gym experience) caused Jordan to swear off the gym entirely due to lack of motivation to exercise in this particular environment.

Jordan H. had this to say in the article, “When I’d go to use machines, I felt like no one was taking me seriously,” Jordan said. “I felt like there was such a huge stigma with people being homophobic, or (holding) any other sort of stigmas with race or financial background. The looks that you get or the judgment you feel, it can really create a toxic environment.”

Jordan’s ex-boyfriend was actually the one who recommended Orangetheory Fitness, he raved about Orangetheory, and Jordan, was intrigued enough to push open the double-glass doors of his local studio and check it out for himself.

According to the company’s blog, Jordan observed a group of OTF members — ranging in age, style and body type in the studio, some working through floor exercises and others transitioning from a warm-up jog to a push-pace.

Jordan says, at the front of the class, an enthusiastic coach would shout words of encouragement to the fitness enthusiasts, correcting first-timers’ push-up forms and motioning with both hands when it was time to alternate between exercises. The class environment was free of discrimination; each member received motivation throughout the workout in a diverse and supportive environment, without the fear of feeling like an outsider.

Orangetheory Fitness encourages everyone from all walks of life to come and visit the gym in Aurora and find out for themselves just how warming, open minded, and non judgemental the staff and members really are.

Aug 22, 2019

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics wasted little time responding to an early blow from the New York Yankees. Matt Olson and Mark Canha hit back-to-back homers in the first inning to lead the A's over the New York Yankees 6-2 on Tuesday night for their fifth win in six games. "I feel like we've been doing that lately," Olson said. "If we give up a run or two, we find a way to come in and respond. To shut down any momentum is nice to do." Olson connected on a two-run shot down the right field line with two...

'A heavy lift': Religious black voters weigh Buttigieg's bid

Aug 22, 2019

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Joe Darby, a South Carolina pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, pondered a sensitive question that he knew was on the mind of his congregation. Would black voters be able to reconcile their conservative religious doctrine with voting for a gay candidate for president? "It's a heavy lift in the black church," says Darby, who is also a Charleston-area NAACP leader. "Just as nobody who is racist likes to say, 'I'm a racist,' nobody who is homophobic in the black community likes to say, 'I'm homophobic.'" In South Carolina, the first state with a predominantly African...

Virgin Galactic reveals futuristic outpost for space tourism

Aug 22, 2019

UPHAM, N.M. — Spaceport America is no longer just a shiny shell of hope that space tourism would one day launch from this remote spot in the New Mexico desert. The once-empty hangar that anchors the taxpayer-financed launch and landing facility has been transformed into a custom-tailored headquarters where Virgin Galactic will run its commercial flight operations. Two levels within the spaceport include mission control, a preparation area for pilots and a lounge for paying customers and their friends and families, with each element of the fit and finish paying homage to either the desert landscape that surrounds the futuristic...

Hong Kong reassures visitors amid protests, travel warnings

Aug 22, 2019

HONG KONG — Hong Kong is seeking to reassure visitors to the city after several countries issued travel safety warnings related to ongoing prod-democracy protests. An email attributed to an unidentified government spokesman conceded recent road blockages and confrontations between police and protesters had caused inconveniences, but said they were confined to limited areas. It said the government and the travel industry were working to minimize disruptions to visitors. The government on Thursday said tourist arrivals dropped 26% at the end of last month compared to last year and were continuing to fall in August. Commerce Secretary Edward Yau Tang-wah...
